The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) grants authorization for commencement of operations at the AIA on February 14, 2017.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves announced that the AIA would be operational from February 14, 2017. The final cost of building the airport has been put at $700 million.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said at a press briefing that the opening of the AIA was imminent.
An agreement was signed with the CDF for a concessionary loan for the establishment of a Solar Photovoltaic Renewal Energy Project at the AIA. Once established, the Solar PV project is expected to produce some 1,000 kilo watts of electricity.
